Exhibition ‘A Better City’ officially transferred to Van Eesteren Museum
Model moved by historic streetcar under great interest
On July 30th, 2017 the exhibition ‘A Better City’ was officially transferred to the Van Eesteren Museum in Amsterdam. Parts of this exhibition will get a prominent place in the Van Eesteren Pavilion, which will soon open on the north bank of the Sloterplas. To symbolize the transfer a large model was moved by a historic streetcar. Under great interest Anouk de Wit (director of Van Eesteren Museum) and Karin Westerink (head of the section Monuments) skilfully maneuvered the 1,30 x 1,60 meter large model through the small doors of the overcrowded streetcar and brought it safely to the Van Eesteren Museum, where it can be seen in the new pavilion as from mid October 2017.
The official transfer of the exhibition underlines the importance of the Van Eesteren Museum and its forthcoming extension with the Van Eesteren Pavilion on the north bank of the Sloterplas. It is a new milestone for the museum in the build-up to the official opening of the pavilion. Previous milestones were the start of the construction and reaching the highest point of the pavilion this Spring, but surely also the successful crowdfunding campaign in June for the interior of the new museum café. The next milestone will be a sneak preview of the pavilion, organised by Van Eesteren Museum on September 9th and 10th, 2017. On these dates those who are interested can take a first clandestine look in the new museum.
